Feb. 25 - China has urged the establishment of a multilateral governance
mechanism that is more rational and just and more conducive to Internet
development.
Speaking at a United Nations conference on Thursday, Chinese Ambassador
Sha Zukang said the situation in which Internet governance is monopolized
by one state, one corporation or a handful of private organizations
neither facilitates further growth of the Internet, nor fully embodies
the principle of equity and full representation.
He said that the international management of the Internet should be
multilateral, transparent and democratic, with the full involvement of
governments, the private sector, civil society and international
organizations.
He also stressed that governments should play a leading role in the
decision-making process, since the responsibility for Internet-related
public policy issues lies with the sovereign states.
