The 59th bridge over Yangtze River completed

www.chinanews.cn 2007-05-31 09:12:11

Chinanews, Chengdu, May 31 - Jiangan Highway Bridge, the third longest
bridge in Asia, was completed on May 28, 2007. It is the 59th bridge over
the Yangtze River, taking those still under construction into
consideration.
Vehicles in Jiangan, Sichuan Province used to rely on ferries to cross
the Yangtze River before the building of the bridge. It can be estimated
that the bridge will serve as a booster to local ecnomic development.
The main span of the bridge extends to 540 m, and the total length of the
bridge is 1,092.2 m. It took some 115 million yuan to build the bridge,
but obviously it is worth the cost.
