Beijing to reserve 22,692 hotel rooms for 2008 Olympics
www.chinanews.cn 2005-03-31 13:44:37
Chinanews.com, Mar. 31 - Xiang Ping, deputy director of the Service
Department of the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX
Olympiad (BOCOG), said yesterday that the committee was in negotiation
with contracted hotels on prices of guest rooms, which is expected to
finish in the first half of 2006. According to Beijing's bidding report,
the highest price of hotel rooms for the 2008 Olympics will be 340 to 370
US dollars.
In accordance with the Olympic Charter and the host city contract, BOCOG
will offer 22,000 hotel rooms and suites to Olympic Family members,
registered journalists and sponsors. Since it signed contracts with the
first seven hotels on March 18, 2004, the committee has contracted 88
star hotels to reserve 22,692 rooms and suites.
However, Xiang added that although the number of hotel rooms meets the
terms of the contract, it is still a long time before the opening of the
Beijing Olympic Games. In order to better serve Olympic guests, BOCOG
plans to increase the number of designated hotels after careful
consideration.
