Till death do us part

Matrimony was meant for eternity, even if it only lasts for one day: yī
rì fū qī bǎi rì ēn
?(一日夫妻百日恩, one day husband and wife 100 days affection) or
even if they are far apart like Altair and Vega: niú láng zhī nǚ
(牛郎织女, who see each other only in a year). In old times, a woman
must remain loyal to her husband, even if the marriage was a mistake -
jià jī suí jī, jià gǒu suí gǒu (嫁鸡随鸡, 嫁狗随狗, marry
a rooster, follow a rooster, marry a dog, follow a dog). If she is lucky
to marry well: fū guì qī róng (夫贵妻荣, husband noble wife
glory). The ideal marriage is láng cái nǚ mào (郎才女貌, man
talent woman beauty) with domestic harmony - fū chàng fù suí
(夫唱妇随, husband sings and wife follows). However, for some
couples: tóng chuáng yì mèng (同床异梦, same bed, different
dreams); and fū qī běn shì tóng lín niǎo, dà nàn lín tóu gè
zì fēi (夫妻本是同林鸟, 大难临头各自飞, husband and wife
were birds sharing the same grove, yet each flies away at times of
catastrophe).
